555 Marriott evacuated for unattended package

The New Orleans Police Department ordered the evacuation of the New Orleans Marriott Hotel at 555 Canal Street after reports of an unattended package shortly before 5 p.m. Friday.

Officers also closed the French Quarter side of Canal Street to both drivers and pedestrians. Rashaad Batiste, an employee at the Arby’s restaurant next door to the hotel says guests and employees are standing on the opposite side of Canal Street.

At about 5:35 p.m., officers gave the all-clear at the hotel.
