“When I was in my teens in Texas I was one of the few people I knew who was interested in vintage or wore it, but now it’s become such a popular thing and it’s really thrilling to see people getting so into it,” says Leslie Courreges owner Retro Active Vintage Uptown.
Thanks to the hit show Mad Men the 1960’s is making a comeback and as the show comes back to AMC why not use it as another chance to play dress up at the swankiest bar in town.
“We’re expecting everyone to look the part. We’re going to have some complimentary tastings, special cocktails, themed hors d’oeuvres. We’re going to have a green screen where guests can take fun photos,” says Gretchen Hirt with Gambel Communications, “It’s going to happen right here in the Carousel Bar and Lounge. It’s going to be a 60’s theme event.”
“It’s an era that looking at it in retrospect doesn’t have a lot of its own identity. The early 60’s were very much like the 50’s in style and the fashions that were popular in the 70’s started in the late 60’s and carried through in the next decade,” says Courreges, “The hair and makeup are very important and of course the dress. Women didn’t traditionally wear pants.”
So ladies pick up a pencil skirt or a shift dress and accessorize with anything big. For your hair think sultry big waves that are achieved with a curling iron, pins, and lots of patience. While your hair cools work, on your makeup. The focus should be on your lashes and eye brows so think nude lids, loads of eye liner and mega lashes. The men have it a bit easier.
“For guys suits with a lapel and a skinny tie.”
The Mad Men inspired party at the Hotel Monteleone is this Thursday from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Tickets are $10. To reserve your ticket click here.
