A three-alarm fire broke out around 6:30 Friday morning in Mid City, at an abandoned business located at North Broad and Bienville streets.
The fire caused the second story of the building to collapse and flames could be seen from WGNO’s metrocam in Metairie and a thick plume of black smoke was visible across the region.
The New Orleans Fire Department tells WGNO News that there were signs homeless people had been living inside.
The flames were doused within the hour.
The building had been abandoned since Hurricane Katrina and ironically was scheduled for demolition today.
