A St. Bernard Parish deputy is in a local hospital in an unknown condition after a crash.

The crash occurred before 8:30 a.m. on Thursday after a suspect running from a traffic stop by another officer.

The suspect jumped out his vehicle and reached for something at his side. One officer fired a shot but missed the suspect, who tossed a weapon over a fence at a junk yard.

The suspect is in custody.

The officer was treated for minor bumps and bruises.
