New Orleans city leaders are asking people to only throw beads along the designated parade routes during the remaining days of the carnival season.
They’re asking people not to throw beads or drop trash in areas along Napoleon and South Claiborne Avenues that are used as staging areas for the floats. Often, spectators approach the floats hoping to catch beads.
The city says those areas are also construction zones with federally funded drainage projects currently underway. Beads and any other debris left on the ground are difficult to clean up because of the construction.
