NEW ORLEANS – Four athletes from Elmwood Fitness’ Tumbling and Trampoline Team were named to the 2012-2013 USA Gymnastics Olympic Developmental National Team.
Gretchen Schultz, Rachel Thevenot, Mandie DiMarco, and Patrick Lyell train at Elmwood’s Gymnastic Academy.
In September, these young gymnasts from Louisiana competed at the Loule’ Cup in Portugal, and they brought home Gold medals.
They competed in three events, tumbling, trampoline, and double-mini trampoline.
The young gymnasts are coached by Toni Mortillaro, Gino Mortillaro, and Jared Olsen.
“Here’s what you’ve worked for like the whole time, and to do so well is very satisfying,” DiMarco said.
Patrick Lyell said, “I was having a party in my head when I found out I was the best in the world.”
These gravity-defying athletes know all their hard work and determination is paying off.
“I love the sport so much. It’s my passion, Schultz said.
“I’m not going to lie. It’s mentally, physically, and emotionally rough. You have to be ready and it’s not as easy as doing a cartwheel,” Thevenot said.
