Starting next season The Hornets will be no more, at least in name.

“First thing I gotta show is my new hat,” says owner Tom Benson at the grand unveiling of the new Pelican logo and team colors.

The colors are red, gold and blue.

Benson says the change from Hornets to Pelicans speaks to the culture and resolve of the gulf coast, “There`s a great future ahead of us not only do I think that I know it. Coaches and players were all very excited about it.”

The team will remain the Hornets for the rest of this season and will become the Pelicans after the season.

There is one primary Pelican logo and five secondary logos.

New uniforms will be unveiled this summer.

Team president Dennis Lauscha says hundreds of new team names were debated, “Over and over one name continued to come to the top and that name was the Pelicans.”
