Rummel’s Williams commits to Southern Miss

damian williamsThe wait was worth it for Rummel quarterback Damian Williams.

The Raiders starting quarterback, and most outstanding player in the 5A championship game, committed to Southern Mississippi Wednesday night. Williams was mostly shunned by college recruiters, despite leading Rummel to a perfect season and the school’s first state football championship.

Williams, 6-1 and 215 pounds, completed 11 of 13 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-14 win over Barbe in the 5A championship game. He also rushed for 52 yards as Rummel scored 22 unanswered points in the 4th quarter.

Williams’ teammate, tight end Cethan Carter, will be visited on campus by Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini Thursday.

Also, LSU continues to pursue Holy Cross wide receiver Kevin Spears. Spears committed to Louisiana Tech Sunday. But, LSU recruiting coordinator Frank Wilson was spotted at Wednesday night’s Holy Cross basketball game.
