John Mayeaux says he was stabbed multiple times while celebrating at a popular club.
Now after two weeks in the hospital, he’s working to help police find his attacker.
“I didn’t know the injury was as severe as it was when I was leaving the bar,” John Mayeaux said.
John Mayeaux says he’s not sure if it was the alcohol he drank, or if he was in shock; but he doesn’t remember much about the physical altercation he had, and subsequent stabbing.
His father got the call from the hospital.
“It was sickening, it was; I couldn’t I didn’t know what to do,” Robert Mayeaux said.
The father, son duo set out New Year’s for a wild night on Frenchmen Street.
They wound up at the Dragon’s Den, located in the 400 block of Esplanade.
“It was like we’re having a good time, and then this took place,” Robert Mayeaux said.
Robert and John Mayeaux had gotten separated inside the club before the scuffle happened.
John says he can’t recall what provoked his attacker, but he knew it was time to leave.
“I thought the guy hit me hard enough in the ear to split my ear open to make it bleed,” John Mayeaux said.
The injuries were much worse.
His designated driver, noticed heavy bleeding, then realized John had been stabbed 9 times; behind the ear, on his arm, and several times in the abdomen.
“My lungs was punctured, colon was punctured, my diaphragm,” John Mayeaux said.
Robert Mayeaux is still baffled.
“Not understanding what caused it, or why it even happened. We’re not the type of people who look for trouble like that,” Robert Mayeaux said.
Now police are looking for trouble.
They are searching for a man the victim describes as a fair skinned male, who may be white, Hispanic, or bi-racial.
“He told us the subject may have been wearing a light cream colored thermal shirt,” New Orleans Police Detective Michael Flores said.
Detective Michael Flores said the attacker was hanging with a black male with short dreads, and white female.
He hopes someone remembers the trio, and recognizes the man in the composite sketch.
Security camera video from the club has been turned over to police.
Detectives are still reviewing it, to develop leads in the case.
