Staffers at Oceana Grill are preparing perhaps one of the most important meals of the year.
The restaurant, located at the corner of Conti and Bourbon Street in the French Quarter is where a benefit will be held Tuesday night for New Orleans Police Lt. Reginald Jacque.
He’s been battling pancreatic cancer since September.
“I was absolutely devastated Lieutenant Reggie is someone I’ve known at least 15 years,” restauranter Moe Bader said.
Moe Bader is part owner of Oceana Grill.
He speaks highly of the dedicated officer who is respected by French Quarter business owners for his service after Hurricane Katrina.
“We were safe down here because of him,” Bader said. ” He was one of the few New Orleans Police Department members that refused to leave the city after Katrina.”
“People like that you always want to show your kindness in return,” NOPD Sergeant Ernest Luster said.
Colleagues in the 8th district also speak highly of Lieutenant Jacque.
So it’s no wonder why Sgt. Ernest Luster is spearheading the benefit which will help offset medical costs that are piling up by the day.
The 25-year veteran officer’s cancer is spreading.
“Something like this right near retirement is a devastating blow,” Luster said. “Not only to us as officers but as friends because we consider him a friend.”
Now their friend needs help; their help and help from the public that he’s served selflessly and unconditionally for 25-years.
“The least we could do during this hard time is to have a fundraiser for him and raise some money so we can help.”
The benefit buffet is at Oceana Grill Tuesday from 7-9pm.
Tickets are $25 dollars per person.
If you are unable to make it, but would like to donate, you can mail your donation to Reginald Jacque, at the NOPD 8th District Station, located at 334 Royal Street, New Orleans, LA 70130.
