Riverside sophomore guard Von Julien starred in the finals of the Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic.
In the championship game against Sheldon, California, Julien scored 22 points and handed out 5 assists. He was named the boys tournament most valuable player.
Riverside rallied from a 17-3 deficit to defeat Sheldon 72-65.
“We never had a team win the Sugar Bowl tournament even with the great teams that we have had,” explains head coach Tim Byrd. “We had a team that wasn’t supposed to be here, and now they step up and win unexpectedly. This team now believes it can win.”
Von Julien averaged 15 points and 6 assists during the 3-day event at the Alario Center.
