It’s the most wonderful time of the year! No, not Christmas, but around these parts, it’s Mardi Gras! And what a celebration it’s going to be.
This year, right smack dab in the middle of Mardi Gras, New Orleans will also be hosting the NFL’s biggest party, the Superbowl. Yesterday the “Phunny Phorty Phellows”, in full costume, made their annual streetcar ride down St. Charles Avenue to officially mark the beginning of Carnival 2013.
King cakes are available everywhere and marching clubs and paraders are getting ready to ride. This year over 50 parades will roll in metro New Orleans.
The economic impact of Mardi Gras 2013, coupled with Superbowl 47, could exceed $1 billion. The first 6 weeks of this year could be the biggest in the history of New Orleans tourism. The hotels are booked up and the city’s restaurant’s reservation are filling up as well.
The national and international spotlight will be on New Orleans for the next month and a half. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year.
