Police Search For Christmas Grinch

holiday_theftThefts of holiday gift packages continue to rise throughout New Orleans.

“I was very angry and frustrated about it,” said the theft victim who does not want to be identified.

He’s a hard-working father, who’s now working with police to find the Grinch who stole Christmas from his 21-month old son.

Security camera video shows someone, walk onto the porch of a Lake Barrington home; someone apparently up to no good.

WGNO News Reporter Darian Trotter asked, “You see this strange person come up to your mom’s house; how’s that make you feel? What went through your mind? I’m thinking she could have been backing out of the garage and he could have had a gun it could have ended badly,” the victim responded.

After looking through the front glass door for 20 seconds, the guy with a green shirt pulled over his head walks away with a package from Amazon.

Inside, was a Leapfrog Leap Pad 2.

This father turned to UPS for his missing package.

“They said it was delivered and they said I had to take it up with Amazon.”

This holiday season, New Orleans police have had to investigate countless packages disappearing from porches.

Detectives say in some cases, thieves followed behind delivery workers to steal whatever was in the packages they were dropping off.

“I think it’s horrible especially during Christmas time,” the victim said.

From the looks of it, whoever was caught on tape allegedly stealing Christmas appeared to have the whole thing planned.

“He had it planned but obviously he didn’t do a good job, because he had it on the back of his head and right as he turned he was dead on the camera,” the victim said. “I’m just glad we were able to catch him.”

Police suggest having your holiday packages delivered to your workplace; or require delivery workers to get a signature from someone at your home or your neighbor’s home.
