The Saints have watched their confidence evaporate
The 287 kickoff returns yards allowed by the Saints on Sunday in New York was terrible.
Drew Brees threw two more interceptions to run his total to an alarming 18 for the season. When Joe Vitt talks about his team pressing, he is clearly referring to, among others, the Saints franchise quarterback.
Throughout this disappointing season many have wondered how much different things would have been with Sean Payton coaching the team. My response is: the Saints would likely be better, but they would not be Super Bowl contenders.
The cloud of the Saints alleged bounty program has hovered over this franchise all season, but it is only part of the issue. The Saints lost many key veterans in free agency and they didn’t have a first or second round draft pick.
Next season, the Saints need Sean. And Sean knows they need better players.
