New Orleans police are looking for the driver of a car who is accused of trying to kill an NOPD officer.

Police say early Sunday morning, Officer Karla Baker pulled over a car for a traffic stop.  They say the driver backed into a parking space in a parking lot in the 3900 block of Downman Road.

Police say the man locked himself in side the car and ignored the officer’s commands then accelerated the car and hit her.

According to police, the car is a newer model, dark blue Chevy Impala with a black, right front quarter panel.  They say it had a temporary license tag covered with a reflective obscuring plate.

The driver left the scene on I-10 over the highrise bridge.

Baker was treated and released from an area hospital with moderate injuries.
