Louisiana Powerball workers say a Slidell man whose powerball ticket didn’t match any numbers for last month’s record jackpot won big because his wife’s ticket did.
Joyce and David Hebert claimed their $1,000,000 for matching all numbers on their ticket except the Powerball.
Joyce told lottery workers that originally, she thought they’d only one $1,000.
“I tried not to get emotional,” David Hebert told lottery workers as he wiped away tears. The couple opted to take the lump sum payment of $700,000 after taxes.
Joyce purchased the ticket a Winn Dixie on Brownswitch Road in Slidell. Lottery workers say the store will receive $10,000 for selling the winning ticket.
While the Heberts decide how to spend their winnings, their grandchildren are reportedly encouraging David to buy a new boat.
