The 25th Algiers Bonfire and Concert is set to go up Saturday night.  The scene is at the river levee near the Algiers Ferry.

The festivities will begin with the Algiers Point Home Tour and Holidays on the Point events, beginning at 11:00 a.m..

Music for the bonfire party begins at 5:00.  The event includes a second-line, a Segway Santa, and a Riverboat parade.

The lighting of the bonfire begins at about 8:30.

The giant birthday cake that will be burned is made up of wooden pallets.  The cake also includes some balloons.

“They’re all going to be coming off of the cake so when it’s lit, there’ll be a whole lot of popping going on and floating balloons and everything,” said event organizer Fay Faron of the Ferry Foundation.
