Beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, ferry service at Algiers Point will be interrupted for a full scale exercise organized by the state.

Companies like the New Orleans Steamboat Company and New Orleans Paddlewheels, Inc. will participate.  The exercise will test the abilities of the boats that work on the river to help one another in emergency situations like fires, groundings, collisions, criminal or terrorist acts.

The last boarding for the ferry from Algiers Point will be 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday.  The last boarding from Canal Street will be at 8:15 a.m.

Service is expected to resume by noon.
