Jackpot winning tickets were purchased in Arizona and Missouri, according to the Powerball website early Thursday morning. The winning numbers for Wednesday night’s drawing: 5  16  22  23  29 and the Powerball was 6.

Tickets were selling at a rate of 130,000 a minute nationwide.

Still, Powerball players just before the drawing were looking for a last minute shot at the second-largest payout in U.S. history.

The state `line` is where is where the  Powerball `line ‘stretches around buildings and through aisles with ticket buyers hoping for a piece of that mammoth payout.

The Purple Cow convenience store in Slidell is the ‘first’ place people from Mississippi can come for a chance to strike it rich.

But there`s a shorter line at Brothers Food Mart in Metairie, where people are feeling confident the 580 million is already theirs.

The jackpot has already rolled over 16 consecutive times without a winner but Powerball officials say they now believe there is a ’75 percent chance the winning combination was drawn Wednesday.

After taxes the cash payout would turn out to be about 360 million dollars.

If nobody wins, there’s a possibility the next jackpot could top for the first time… one billion dollars.

Mega millions drawing in March, when three ticket buyers shared a $656 million jackpot,  remains the largest lottery payout of all time.

Powerball is played in 42 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin islands.
